The Year in Books : April

The Life Changing Magic of Tidying by Marie Kondo

Last month I finished the Millennium Trilogy and I'm so pleased with myself.  Reading more was one of my goals for 2016 and playing along with #theyearinbooks and sharing my monthly reads here has helped so much.  I'm still trying to alternate between fiction and non-fiction, so this month I decided on The Life Changing Magic of Tidying by Marie Kondo.  Steve brought me this book for my birthday in December, as I'm a tidy fanatic.  I also couldn't wait to see what all the fuss was about (the book has been featured heavily on a plethora of blogs).  At the same time, during one of my recent catch-ups with my friend Paula, I also learnt that she had brought the book, read it over the Easter break and then immediately made a start on de-cluttering her space using the Marie Kondo method.  So, I couldn't wait to get started...

I'm currently about half way through the book which goes into detail about Marie Kondo's history with tidying and how she approaches a de-cluttering project with her clients.  The main principle is 'keep only that which brings you joy' and to tidy by category rather than location.  I've read the section all about de-cluttering your wardrobe and am currently half-way through the books category.

This book has come at a perfect time, as me and Steve are looking to sell our little Lancaster flat and move to another house with a garden (eek!).  We're currently painting and tidying our flat ready to put on the market and as a self-confessed hoarder I'm already starting to view my belongings and surroundings differently.

The book is relatively light and I'm hoping to finish it well in advance of the end of the month so that I can test out the Marie Kondo method myself.  A perfect book for the start of the spring-cleaning season!

So, you've seen what I've been reading recently?  Have you read anything you couldn't put down?  Let me know your recommendations in the comments.

If you want to play along with #TheYearinBooks project you can find out more here.

Happy reading! xox
